Like many of our London couples, we are fond of warehouse spaces, arches and studios: they are the perfect fit for an atmospheric, romantic winter wedding!
Winter weddings have their own very special magic. It's the time of year when our atmospheric railway arch and basement venues really come into their own - fill them with twinkling fairy lights, lush winter foliage and add seasonal touches such as dried fruit, pumpkins, ribbons and parcel paper. Our photographers love a winter wedding too. Low winter light, cosy overcoats and rich tweeds all make for romantic portrait shots.
Another advantage of winter weddings is, of course, that it gets dark earlier. If you're in a venue with a slightly earlier finish, it feels more natural to get the party started when the sun goes down - so don't worry if your first dance sounds early, once it's dark outside we'll all be ready to hit the dancefloor!
Many of our December clients have opted for Christmassy touches to their weddings. Take advantage of the venue space with large Christmas trees and hanging garlands. Custom made party crackers make great December favours!
Take a look at our hand-picked selection of London's best winter wedding venues below!
1. The Asylum, Peckham, South London
The Asylum (or Caroline Gardens chapel) is a stunning Grade II listed building licensed for wedding ceremonies.
This distressed Georgian chapel may well be London's most unusual and romantic ceremony venue! It was built in 1826 and bombed during the second world war.
The venue is now used as a flexible arts, filming and events space. It can host up to 120 guests in theatre style for your London wedding ceremony. It has retained its gorgeous original glass stained windows and its funerary monuments, made out of carved stone.
Dates go very quickly at this venue, so we advise you get in touch ASAP if you are interested in hosting your wedding ceremony there - and do not hesitate to ask our team for reception venues that work particularly well with The Asylum!
2. 100 Barrington - Brixton, South London
100 Barrington is a charming, flexible wedding space located in Brixton, South London.
This venue used to be a furniture factory - it dates as far as 1879. Now a fantastic events space, it retains some of its characterful original features such as high ceilings, exposed beams and brickwork. The atmospheric, open plan ground floor space can host up to 120 seated for a festive wedding meal - you'll just have to clear some tables for dancing after dinner. The venue benefits from having a late license, so you can go until 1.30am!
3. Shoreditch Studios - Shoreditch, East London
Shoreditch Studios is a unique, incredibly charming railway arch venue available for dry hire for a fully flexible and creative wedding.
This venue is quite simply the perfect fit for a Christmas wedding- although, with its large outdoor courtyard, it makes for a fantastic summer party option too! It is made up of two interlinked studios. You can sit up to 150 guests comfortably for your winter feast in Studio 1, keeping Studio 2 as your party and dancefloor space.
Both Studios are licensed for ceremonies, so you can have everything in one place and keep your guests from having to travel across London in the cold!
